Ebony & Wood Carvings
Ebony is an exceptionally hard and beautiful Wood found
in East Africa. Ebony wood is used by the Makonde people to
carve artifacts. The Makonde are an ethnic group in
southeast Tanzania and northern Mozambique. The Makonde
traditionally carve household objects, figures and masks.
Ebony wood is one of the most expensive type of wood. Like
any wood, ebony is subject to drying and cracking especially
in dry climates.
